Vibration Isolator

Vibration Isolators are systems designed to reduce and control vibrations that affect high-precision tools such as microscopes, metrology instruments, and semiconductor equipment. Even minor vibrations can cause blurry images, inaccurate data, and reduced performance.

By using both Passive and Active technologies from mechanical damping to real-time active compensation Vibration Isolators provide stability, accuracy, and reliability without requiring costly foundation work. They are ideal for laboratories, manufacturing fabs, medical applications, and other industries where precision is critical.

How Do Vibration Isolators Work?

Vibration Isolators are designed to reduce and isolate unwanted vibrations coming from the surrounding environment, such as building movement, air-conditioning systems, nearby machinery, or even foot traffic. The system is engineered with a very low natural frequency, allowing it to remain stable when exposed to higher-frequency vibrations.

When external vibrations occur, the Vibration Isolator absorbs and isolates them instead of resonating, preventing the vibrations from being transmitted to the equipment mounted on top. This helps protect sensitive equipment and ensures more stable and accurate operation.

The core of a Vibration Isolator consists of load-bearing elements, typically springs that support the weight of the equipment. These can be metal springs or pneumatic systems, with pneumatic isolators being especially popular in applications that require high precision and superior vibration control.

Why vibration isolation matters

In laboratories and high-tech industries, instruments like AFM, SEM, TEM, or optical microscopes require extreme stability. However, everyday sources such as building vibrations, air conditioning, or even footsteps can blur images and compromise measurement accuracy.

Table Top Active Anti-Vibration System - VAIS-AMT series

Table Top Active Anti-Vibration System

Developed in 2007, VAIS-AMT series is Korea's first commercialized tabletop active anti-vibration system. It satisfies IEST's VC-G class of environment for anti-vibration system to accommodate Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), a device especially vulnerable to low-frequency vibration disturbance.

VAIS-AMT also removes resonance phenomenon of passive isolation systems with easier installation and operation procedures. Since the commercialization, VAIS-AMT's excellent capabilities and competitive price have been recognized by worldwide AFM manufacturers and utilized in various nano-measurement instruments.
